Cheliplana hiemalis Brunet, 1968

Material examined. Reference material. 1 whole mount ( SMNH Type 2818) and 2 serially sectioned specimens ( SMNH 82506–82507 View Materials ) .

Known distribution. Golfe de Marseille, France ( Brunet 1968).

Remarks. Our observations correspond to those of Brunet (1968). Live specimens are colourless and reach a total body length of ~ 1.3 mm. The proboscis is armed with a pair of 16–17-µm-long hooks. The proboscis sidepieces insert at the base of the muscular proboscis and each sidepiece bears a single 8-µm-long bristle. An unpaired testis is situated ventral to the pharynx. Vasa deferentia and seminal vesicles are paired, the latter entering the proximal part of the copulatory bulb separately. Within the copulatory bulb, the proximal prostatic vesicle is immediately followed by a weakly sclerotised ejaculatory duct, the most distal part of which widens to form a short, globular, 10–12-µmlong cirrus. According to Brunet (1968), the tubular sclerotised ejaculatory duct bears very fine sclerotised spines. While re-examining the type material, however, we did not observe such spines.
