TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Pedemontio [Piedmont ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (pinned on a stout, big-headed steel pin that has partially destroyed the thorax) ( MZUF: Box 30): Sapromyza Fall. / acuticornis Rnd. / 1574 / Lectotype Sapromyza acuticornis Rondani, 1868 , ♂, des. L. Papp, 1981 / Sapromyza apicalis Lw. , det. L. Papp.

PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♂ ( MZUF: Box 30): Sapromyza Fall. / acuticornis Rnd. / 1574 / [illegible label] / paralectotype Sapromyza acuticornis Rondani, 1868 , ♂, des. L. Papp, 1981 / Lyciella subfasciata Zett. , ♂, det. L. Papp.

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MRSN): 14 69 / 793 / Sapromyza Fall. / acuticornis Rond. , Susa [= Susa Valley (Piedmont)], ♀ ; 1 ♀ ( MRSN): 5 62 / 792 / Sapromyza Fall. acuticornis Rond. , Susa [= Susa Valley (Piedmont)], ♀ .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Sapromyza apicalis Loew, 1847 ( Papp 1984a: 212) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1868c: 247) described Sapromyza acuticornis , without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from L. Bellardi. Papp (1981: 167) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotype (♂) but did not mention an additional two females in the MRSN (both of these additional specimens are paralectotypes).
