( Fig. 341)

Redescription. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length: male 4.0– 4.2 mm (mean = 4.1, n = 5), female 4.4– 4.7. Colour stramineous; in profile junction of vertex and frons faintly reddish-brown; frons often with a broad, longitudinal, faintly orange band (holotype); mesonotum usually with one or two (e.g. in holotype) small orange marks at border to scutellum; mesopleura usually slightly orange, abdomen stramineous. Forewings glassy; slightly infuscated in costal cells, from clavus tip to base of Ms1, around base of Ms2, and along apical crossveins; veins stramineous, last subcostal sector and apex of Sc orange-red; additional veins often coloured as follows (e.g. in holotype): slightly orange in most of the infuscated areas; crossveins between Sc, R, and M bright orange; 2nd subcostal sectors and additional sections of costa orange-red; 4 dark spots on base of Sc+R. Hindwings colourless. In profile junction of vertex and face angulated; subantennal processes connected to margins of facial carinae by a low ridge; rostrum reaching post trochanters. Forewings with Sc+R fork distad of middle of wing; basal median cell broad, more than twice as wide as basal cell between Sc+R and M; a very small triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles oval; proximal dorsal process short and slender; distal dorsal process long; a small hump between both processes. Apical part of aedeagus with 2 pointed processes at its base; at the tip two lobes, the right one with a short pointed tip curving to the left side.

Etymology. Derived from Toroen in Taiwan, the latinized species name ( toroensis , -ensis, -ense) is an adjective.

Type material. Rhotana toroensis , holotype ♂, TAIWAN; labels: 1) Formosa/Matsumura/ Toroen/ 1974'07 2) Rhotana toroensis / det. Matsumura ( EIHU). Saccharodite caudata , holotype ♂ (not examined), TAIWAN, Fenchifu, Chiayi Hsien, 14- VI.1987, S.C. Tsaur ( NCHU).

Note. As Matsumura describes details of the male genitalia, it is clear that his reference to the holotype as a female is erroneous and there is no doubt that the specimen in EIHU is the holotype of Rhotana toroensis . The synonymy of Saccharodite caudata Yang & Wu is based on the detailed description and illustrations of that species.

Other material examined. TAIWAN: 4 ♂ 2 ♀ (1 ♂ USNM, rest BPBM); locality unknown, " Rhotana toroensis , det. Matsumura " , 1 ♂ ( BPBM) .

Distribution. Taiwan.

Diagnosis. It is concluded that Saccharodite toroensis shows some variation in coloration with the type of R. toroensis representing strongly coloured, and the type of Sa. caudata Yang & Wu representing weakly coloured forms. The other specimens examined show intermediate coloration. Sa. toroensis is externally unseparable from Sa. siamensis sp. nov. from Thailand. It can be recognized by the apical portion of the male aedeagus which bears two pointed processes of equal size at its base, and a terminal pointed process on the right side.
