Colour stramineous; a small mark above eyes, a large mark in front of antennae and clypeus black-brown; mesonotum but not scutellum blackbrown; mesopleura and legs dark brown, but hind tibiae only at bases brown, rest stramineous; abdomen dark grey, tinted with red. Forewings infuscated, but a large area in basal half nearly colourless; veins brown, reddish near costal and apical margins; first subcostal sector colourless and poorly visible. Hindwings including veins faintly infuscated. In profile junction of vertex and face rounded; face produced in front of antennae; subantennal processes well separated from margins of facial carinae; rostrum surpassing post trochanter. Forewings with Sc+R fork at middle of wing; basal median cell slightly broader than basal cell between Sc+R and M; no triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles oval; proximal dorsal process short and slender; distal dorsal process long. Apical part of aedeagus very short, slightly impressed dorsally, and with a small membranous lobe at the tip.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (niger, -gra, -grum = black).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.7 mm), PAPUA NEW GUINEA; labels: 1) WEST NEW GUINEA/ Star Mts. Sibil Val./ 1245 m, 18.X–8.XI.'61 2) S. Quate &/ L. Quate / Collectors ( BPBM).

Distribution. New Guinea.

Diagnosis. Saccharodite nigra shows similarities with Sa. aucta sp. nov. also from New Guinea. However, it can be recognized by the very dark clypeus and mesonotum and the strongly infuscated forewings.
