Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (montanus, -a, -um = of the mountain).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.3 mm), PAPUA NEW GUINEA; labels: 1) NEW GUINEA: PAPUA / S. Highlands: Dimifa / SE of Mt. Giluwe,/ 2200m., X.10.1958 2) J.L. Gressitt / Light Trap ( BPBM) . Paratypes. PAPUA NEW GUINEA: PAPUA: S. Highlands: Mendi , 1660m, 13.X.1958, 1 ♂ (fw. 4.1) , T. C. Maa; Aiyurop, nr. Mendi , 1530m, 7.X.1958, 1 ♂, J.L. Gressitt; same data as holotype, 2 ♂ (fw. 4.1) (all BPBM).

Distribution. New Guinea.

Diagnosis. Saccharodite montana resembles Sa. minuscula sp. nov., also from New Guinea. It can be distinguished by the middle of the pronotum being coloured orange, by the middle femora having an orange mark instead of an orange stripe, and by the much large apical part of the male aedeagus.
