Pujoliclerus megacavus Opitz , new species ( Figs. 34 , 64 , 107 , 127 )

Holotype. ♀. PANAMA: Panamá: 7–10 km N El Llano , 21-30-IV-1995, E. Giesbert ( FSCA).

Paratypes. Two specimens. PANAMA: Panamá: 8–10 km N El Llano, 26-IV-4 V-1992, E. Giesbert ( FSCA, 1; WOPC, 1) .

Diagnosis. This species is distinguishable from superficially similar P. wappesi by the more narrow shape of the antennal capitulum (compare Figs. 27 and 34 ).

Description. Size: Length 6.0 mm; width 2.0 mm. Integument: Head mostly reddish brown, frons black; antenna brown; pronotum tricolorous, anterior margin narrowly white, then reddish brown, then black; elytra mostly brown, yellow around periphery; forelegs mostly brown, midleg and hindleg yellow; pterothorax and abdomen brown. Head: Eyes as wide as frons (12:12); funicular antennomeres moderately expanded, 6 th antennomere not very large ( Fig. 34 ). Thorax: Pronotum slightly elongate (35:36), lateral tubercle very prominent ( Fig. 64 ); epipleural fold broad, abruptly narrowed in posterior 2/3; asetiferous punctures large, prominent to distal elytral 2/3. Abdomen: Aedeagus not available.

Variation. The width of the yellow sutural line varies.

Natural History. Specimens were collected during April.

Distribution. K n o w n o n l y f r o m P a n a m a ( Fig. 127 ).

Etymology. The specific epithet is a compound name derived from the Greek megas (= large) and

the Latin cavus (= hole). It refers to the large punctures on the elytral disc.
