Etymology. From the Greek echyrus , meaning stout; in reference to its robust body.

Description. Medium size; fore wing length 0.98 cm.

Head. Mandible 2.27 as long as basal width; clypeus 2.02 as wide as high, entirely scarcely punctate; supraclypeal area entirely scarcely punctate, densely pilose; antenna with 31 flagellomeres, white band starting at flagellomere 5, reaching flagellomere 13; flagellum transversal section somewhat triangular; subapical flagellomeres much wider than basal flagellomeres; supra-antennal area ventrally slightly concave, sparsely pilose, scarcely punctate, medially without sulcus; gena and vertex behind ocelli minutely strigulate, sparsely pilose; occipital carina weak, dorsally absent, reaching hypostomal carina far from mandible base; malar space 1.08 as long as basal width of mandible.

Mesosoma . Sparsely pilose, in dorsal view 1.87 as long as wide, in lateral view middle width 0.34 cm; pronotum posteriorly polished; collar polished; pronotal sulcus corrugated, sparsely pilose; scuto-scutellar groove strongly corrugated; scutellum 0.93 as long as wide, polished; hind margin of metanotum without teeth; mesopleuron dorsally smooth, ventrally scarcely punctate; mesopleural groove minutely corrugated; epicnemial carina strong, dorsally strongly curved backwards; dorsal end of epicnemial carina reaching only 0.3 of posterior margin of pronotum; sternaulus absent at posterior 0.5, weakly corrugated; mesopleural fovea moderately deep, forming pit with sulcus; mesothoracic venter polished; median portion of posterior transverse carina of mesothoracic venter absent; transverse furrow at base of propodeum laterally 0.67 as long as anterior portion of propodeum, strongly corrugated, shallow, wide; propodeum 1.02 as long as wide medially; anterior margin without teeth; anterior portion of propodeum scarcely punctate; posterior portion of propodeum entirely strongly strigate, posteriorly with two divergent longitudinal carinae; anterior transverse carina of propodeum complete, strong; propodeal spiracle 0.85 as wide as long; pleural carina of propodeum complete, moderately strong; lower division of metapleuron polished, sparsely pilose; juxtacoxal carina short and weak.

Wings. Fore wing: vein 2+3Rs slightly concave; vein 1M+Rs straight; vein 1cu-a posteriorly slightly curved, angle with vein M+Cu distinctly acute; vein 2-Cu 0.70 as long as vein 2cu-a; vein 4Rs 0.76 as long as vein 4-M, uniformly slightly convex; cell 1+2Rs 1.08 as high as pterostigma, rectangular; vein 2-M 5.67 as long as vein 3-M. Hind wing: vein 1-Cu 0.64 as long as vein cu-a. Vein 2-1A reaching 0.56 of distance to posterior margin.

Metasoma. T1 about 0.52 as long as hind femur, polished; spiracle at anterior 0.71, prominent in dorsal view; postpetiole dorsolaterally slightly depressed; T2–8 minutely coriarious, sparsely pilose; T2 0.85 as long as wide at apex; apex of T2 1.89 as wide as base; ovipositor sheath 0.23 as long as hind tibia; dorsal valve with 6 teeth; ventral valve with 9 widely spaced teeth.

Color. Head and mesosoma yellow and black, metasoma striped. Head: mostly pale yellow (230,191,109); mandible apex, supra-antennal area medially, and occiput, black; antenna mostly blackish; scape ventrally pale yellow; flagellum whitish at f5–13. Mesosoma : black with the following yellow marks: collar and dorsolateral spot at pronotum, two longitudinal short stripes at mesoscutum, scutellum, postscutellum, tegula, subalar ridge, most of mesopleuron centrally, mesothoracic venter, both upper and lower division of metapleuron, and propodeum, except for a longitudinal black stripe. Legs: mostly yellow; all coxae yellow with ventral brown (128,090,065) spots; hind coxa with narrow dorsal brown stripe (not reaching coxa base) and large ventral brown mark; all femora dorsally brownish; fore and mid t1 light brown; fore and mid t2–5 dark brown. Metasoma: striped; T1 yellow, black dorsally to spiracles; T1–8 basally brown and apically yellow. Ovipositor sheath light brown.

Comments. It can be readily recognized by the following combination of features: pleural carina present, strong (Fig. 24); metasoma striped ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 17 – 19 ); clypeus and supraclypeal area entirely pale yellow, without black marks ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 17 – 19 ); transverse furrow at base of propodeum wide; mesoscutum with two longitudinal stripes ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 17 – 19 ); hind margin of metanotum without teeth; anterior transverse carina of propodeum complete. Not resembling any other species of the genus.

Variation. Antenna sometimes with 31–34 flagellomeres; flagellum dorsally partially whitish at f5, dorsally entirely whitish from f6–13. Dorsolateral yellow spot at pronotum sometimes very small and faint; fore and mid coxae with a very small apical dark brown mark; black mark at T1 sometimes involving spiracle; hind tibia and tarsus entirely yellow, even t5 (missing in the holotype); yellow tones at body from bright to pale in the specimens.

Male. Generally similar to female, except for the following: antenna with 26–28, dorsally whitish from f7–18; supra-antennal area densely punctate, with longitudinal sulcus; gena and vertex behind ocelli punctulate; lower division of metapleuron scarcely punctate; fore femur sometimes with a distinct dorsal brown stripe, sometimes only very slightly infuscate with brownish; one specimen with lateral stripe at hind coxa reaching coxa base; T2–8 densely pilose.
