Redescription. 3 (n=14) BL: 7.0–8.0 mm, FWL: 6.5–7.5 mm; Ƥ (n=1), BL: 8.0 mm, FWL: 7.5 mm.

For detailed descriptions and figures of the pregenital characters, see Fennah (1969).

Male genitalia with pygofer ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) narrow and high, with dorsal posterior margin smoothly produced posteriorly in lateral view. Anal tube ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) moderately large, oval in dorsal view, longer than wide at middle (1.7:1). Genital styles ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) relatively large, broad in lateral aspect, with long apical process, in profile longer than wide at middle (2.8:1). Aedeagus ( Figs. 13–15 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) stout, nearly straight, mostly sclerotised, with 12 short spines ventrally in discal half, two pairs of cephalad directed dorsal processes at apex, the inner pair spinose short, nearly parallel, the outer pair long, moderately sinuate, narrowly tubular and weakly sinuate in basal, membranous in succeeding, sclerotised and acuminate apically, twice crossed.

Female genitalia ( Figs. 7–10 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ). Gonopophyses VIII (first valvulae) ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) with eight blunt teeth on dorsal margin. Dorsally, large bursa copulatrix with two pouches, first pouch connected to second by short narrow ductus, opening directly into vagina.

Distribution. New Caledonia, Vanuatu.

Remarks. Information on the bursa copulatrix of Ricaniidae is limited, with the exception of Euricania brevicula Xu & Liang , E. clara Kato , E. facialis Melichar , E. longa Xu & Liang , E. ocellus (Walker) , E. xizangensis Chou & Lu ( Xu et al., 2006) , and Meliprivesa multidentata Stroiński and M. magna Stroiński (Stroiński, 2002) . The bursa copulatrix of P. translucida is different from that of other species. The bursa copulatrix of E. ocellus is only a large long pouch. Two pouches of M. magna are connected by a very long and narrow ductus.

There is almost nothing about the eggs of Ricaniidae , except for Scolypopa australis ( Fletcher, 1979a, b). The surface of the egg of P. translucida is generally similar to the egg of Scolypopa australis , but without a micropylar cap.
