Basionym: Pleurothallis hirsuticaulis Ames & Schweinfurth (1930: 29–30) View in CoL .

TYPE:— COSTA RICA. Cartago: vicinity of Pejivalle , ca. 900 m, 7 Feb 1926. Standley & Valerio 47052 (holotype: AMES!).

Distribution: — Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Peru.

Notes:— This species is recognized by the purple veined and mottled flowers with a suborbicular synsepal and purple lip with white fimbriate margins. Myoxanthus ortizianus and M. priapus are the only other species that have a suborbicular synsepal but not a lip with fimbriate margins.
