22. Myoxanthus herzogii (Schltr.) Luer (1982a: 43) View in CoL . (Fig. 14L)

Basionym: Pleurothallis herzogii Schlechter (1913: 487) View in CoL .

TYPE:— BOLIVIA. La Paz: forest along Río Sanjana (San Juan), 3000 m, Oct 1911, Herzog 2423 [holotype: lectotype, designated by Luer (1994): S!; isolectotype: L!).

Heterotypic synonym: Myoxanthus affinoides Luer (1983a: 385) .

TYPE:— ECUADOR. Zamora-Chinchope : epiphytic in forest south of the pass south of Yangana, 2600 m, 3 Mar 1982, Luer et al. 7114 (holotype: SEL!).

Distribution: — Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru.

Notes:— Luer (1982) included M. herzogii as synonym of M. ceratothallis because Schlechter’s description and illustration could apply to the latter. However, at that time Luer had not inspected the type of the M. herzogii because its location was unknown. In 1994, after locating original material of Pleurothallis herzogii at the Stockholm Herbarium (S), Luer realized that it is conspecific with M. affinoides , a species he had described in 1983 from Ecuador and different from M. ceratothallis . Myoxanthus herzogii is similar to M. affinis , but the former is distinguished by its shortly pseudo-pedunculate flowers with abaxially dense, shortly pubescent sepals and linear and thick above the middle petals ( Luer 1994). On the lectotype of M. herzogii at S, a label by Garay reads: “ since the type does not exist in Berlin, this is chosen by me in my monograph ”. As far as we know, that lectotypification was never published.
