Diagnosis. Body almost uniformly pale; antennal segment I to II pale, III to IV pale basal half, V to VIII brown. Mesonotum with a pair of CPS anteromedially; median pair of setae situated slightly ahead or near posterior margin. Metascutum weakly sculptured with longitudinal anastomosing striae medially; median pair of setae situated near anterior margin. Abdominal terga without ciliate microtrichia on lines of sculpture, smooth medially; tergum II with three lateral marginal setae; tergum IX with only anterior pair of CPS; terga VI to VIII with B4 setae minute; sterna without discal setae. In male, antennal segment VI distinctly longer that of female, with numerous long setae and without microtrichia. Abdominal tergum IX with SB1 setae about half length of B1 setae ( Fig. 13), CPS not visible in specimens studied without KOH treatment; sterna with a few discal setae. Hypomere expanded at apex.

Specimens examined. U.S.A.: Holotype (female) of Taeniothrips albus [ Taeniothrips alba M., California, Red Bluff, on peach foliage, 19vi1908, Dudley Moulton] (CAS). Holotype (female) and allotype of Rhopalandrothrips corni [California, Big Trees, Calaveras Co., on Cornus sp. , 1viii1926, Dudley Moulton](CAS). 1 female, Colorado, Palisade, on peach, 24x1938, Christenson (USNM). 1 female, Idaho, Clearwater Co., Fomes pinnicola, on Abies grandis , 11vi1974, D. Kulhavy (USNM). 1 female, Washington, Creacent bar, on peach, 6vii1940, Christenson (USNM). 1 male, Utah, Brigham, on peach, 30ix1940, Christenson (USNM). 1 male, Washington, Yakima, soil, 6ix1938, Christenson (USNM).

Comments. This species appears to be closely related to the European species, M. albidicornis and M. tscirkunae .
