Valid name: Mormoops megalophylla (Peters, 1864)

Holotype or syntype (marked with type *): ZMB 2826 , body in alcohol, skull extracted, female, adult; according to the catalogue entry by Peters from Parrás, [Coahuila], Mexico; acquired from Schneider.

Comment: The description by Peters contains no information on the number of specimens examined. The type locality was restricted to “Parras, Tehuantepec, Oaxaca ” by Goodwin (1969: 55), based on Alston (1879 – 1882: 37), who referred to the ZMB specimen [Van Cakenberghe pers. comm.].
