Type locality. "... en eau douée, en particulier près de Concepción et à Lunache" (Richard 1897a), Chile. Richard's specimens. Unknown. Comments. A junior synonym of M. spinosa according to Smirnov (1992), which is regarded now as a circumtropical species; however, specimens from different localities should be reconciled .
