ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 85 (key), 89 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi et … ab Insula Melita [Parmese territory ( Italy) … Malta Island]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one covered with mold, missing all legs except right hind-leg, the other missing its left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 11): Macquartia Desv. / occlusa Rnd. / 545; 1 ♂, syntype (missing fore-legs) ( MZUF: Box E): Macquartia occlusa Rnd. , 210, ♂, Apr. / 393 210; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNPV: Box 96): Macquartia occlusa Rndn. , 382, Parma .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Macquartia tessellum ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 315) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 89) described Macquartia occlusa from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Sp. occlusae mares tantum … legi, et unum exemplar sexus ejusdem … misit D. Schembri [I collected only the males of occlusae Sp. , … and D. Schembri sent one specimen of the same sex]”. We found four syntypes in this study.
