Type [lectotype, designated by Gottschlich (2007: 34)]:—[ SPAIN. Balearic Islands, Mallorca], Balarium [sic] insula Majore: ad rupes umbros. de Puig Major de Torella, sol. calcar., 11[00]– 1300 m.s.m., 24. Jun. [18]85, P. Porta & G. Rigo s.n. (Huter, Exs.) [det. J. Freyn sub: H. praecox Sch. -Bip. subsp. brachypus Freyn ex Huter ] ( BOZ [ BOZ –Huter] 2-D code BOZ 002571!) (alt. BRIX no. BRIX –2700!) This taxon was renamed within H. glaucinum Jordan (1848: 22) by Bolòs & Vigo (1996: 1054), as H. glaucinum subsp. brachypus (Freyn ex Zahn) O. Bolòs & Vigo , based on the cited basionym H. praecox subsp. brachypus Freyn ex Zahn , in Engler, Pflanzenreich 75 ( IV. 280): 240. 1921. However, Greuter (2006), Gottschlich (2007: 34) and Mateo & Egido (2017) consider the correct basionym the name distributed by P. Porta and G. Rigo in the exsiccatum “ Pl. Balear. Exs. 1885 ” (without number). On the original label of the sheet the diagnosis given by Freyn is very short (“ calathiis mediocribus aggregatis ramulo subaequilongibus ”) and certainly of poor diagnostic value.

Moreover, Zahn (1921: 420) mentioned “ H. praecox […] subsp. brachypus Freyn in litt. ad Huter (1886) pro var. H. praecocis ”. He was apparently unaware of the fact that Porta and Rigo, and not Huter, were those who distributed the exsiccata. The type locality given by Zahn, “ Balearen: Puig mayor de Torrella, 1100–1300 m ”, is a shortened and fully compatible provenance to that given by Porta and Rigo (“Balarium insula Majore: ad rupes umbros. de Puig Major de Torella, sol. calcar., 1100–1300 m) and most likely he refers to the same exsiccata

Taxonomic remarks:—The examination of the isolectotype clearly shows that this plant is conspecific with H. majoricanum . The presence of H. glaucinum in the Balearic archipelago should be excluded.
