Fulgenta longicerca ( MacGowan, 2005) View in CoL

(Figs, 31–34)

Lamprolonchaea longicerca MacGowan, 2005 View in CoL . p2, comb. nov.

A description with illustrations is provided in MacGowan (2005). At that time this species was the only known member of the genus Lamprolonchaea View in CoL with flattened genitalia and a complex phallus. However when re-evaluated in the context of the genus key included in this paper it can be seen as a typical member of the genus Fulgenta View in CoL .

Additional descriptive notes. Antennae entirely black, 1st flagellomere length to depth ratio 1.5:1. Arista short plumose, ratio of plumosity at maximum extent to depth of 1st flagellomere 0.25:1.

Male terminalia: Phallus, medial surface with a pair of flap-like semi-circular processes.

Holotype male: TANZANIA: East Usambara, Amani , 1000m, ( MacGowan, 2005)

Additional record: KENYA; Voi , ii. viii.2003. A. Freidberg, 1♂. ( TAUI)

Two other species are described from Tanzania on the basis of female specimens both caught on the same day at Marangu ( Morge, 1980). Afrotropical Lamprolonchaea or Fulgenta species described from females prove a difficult challenge as at present in almost all cases species level characters are only known for males. It has not been possible to associate these two females with a corresponding males and it is probable that DNA analysis will be required to resolve the situation. It is quite possible that two of the new species described in this paper will in time be found to be junior synonyms of these two previously described species.
