Holotype. Male, TAS, Elliott, - 41.1121°S, 145.7798°E, 208m asl,I, mproved pasture, suction sample, 21.iii.1978, J. Ireson leg., (labelled as marginata ) [ SAMA 22662,01 View Materials ]. GoogleMaps

Paratypes. Male and three females on slide, [ SAMA 22662,02 View Materials ]; two males, eight females on slide, [ SAMA 22662,03 View Materials ], [ SAMA 22662,04 View Materials ]; one male subadult, [ SAMA 22662,05 View Materials ]; near 300 specimens in ethyl alcohol, all of the same locality and date as holotype, (labelled as marginata ) .

Other material examined. Female on slide, 2 specimens on slide and 29 specimens in ethyl alcohol and 2 on slide (identified as E. marginata ), TAS, Hobart, New Town laboratories, suction lawn, 29.iv.1984, PG JEI leg., SAMA; 2 females on slide, TAS, Flowerdale, NW coast, large numbers in pasture, 25.v.1976, J. Ireson leg., 2 females (on the slide there is a male that seems a Drepanura sp.) .

Description. Size. Length up to 1.62 mm excluding antennae, (n=11), males smaller than females (1.447 vs 1.717).

Colour. Purple granulations with dark antenna, anterior part of the head and transversal stripe distally on each tergite ( Fig. 3G View FIGURE 3 and 5N View FIGURE 5 ); head beige, some beige light spots on Abd III and anterior part of Abd IV. In photograph 5N colour distribution from Type is shown.

Head. Eight eyes, G and H smaller than E and F. Antennal length 760 μm, 2.43 times the length of the head (n=11). Ant IV with bilobed apical vesicle with adjacent pin chaeta; relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV=1/1.9/1.9/2.4 (n=11).

Sensory organ of Ant III with small, straight, rod–like sensilla (8 µm) in addition to the normal guard sensilla (only two seen). Four labral multispinate papillae ( Fig. 38A View FIGURE 38 ). Labral Mc formula: 4/554, 4 prelabral ciliated chaetae, labral chaetae smooth. Labial chaetae MREL 1 L 2 all ciliated, only with one Mc M, and R smaller than M. External process of papilla E not reaching to the papilla tip. Maxillary palp bifurcate with three sublobal chaetae.

Thorax and abdomen. Ratio length of Abd IV/III=3.51 (n=11). Tibiotarsus without differentiated chaetae, with exception of the smooth terminal chaetae on legs 3, characteristic for the genus. Unguis length 50 μm the internal edge and 60 μm external one. Unguis ( Fig. 38B View FIGURE 38 ) with 4 teeth, paired two at 50 % from base and first unpaired tooth at 75 % from the base, terminal one minute; lateral teeth below the level of paired ones, dorsal tooth more basal. Trochanteral organ with 8 to 12 chaetae. Unguiculus lanceolate with external serrated lamella. Tenent hair clavate, longer than internal unguis edge. The length of manubrium and dens 285 + 353=638 μm (n= 11 specimens). Manubrial plate with 4 chaetae and 2 pseudopores. Mucro bidentate with apical tooth a little longer than subapical one, and with mucronal basal spine reaching the tip of the subapical tooth. Mucro 10 μm, (n=11). The length of smooth apical part of dens 16 μm.

Macrochaetotaxy. Simplified Mc formula: 3,1,0,3,2/2,5/2,4/1,2,2/0,3(2–4),4,2,2. Head chaetotaxy ( Fig. 38C View FIGURE 38 ) as Mc An 1, An 2, An 3a1 and An 3 present and with A5 mac on A2 area. M 1 to M 4 present as Mc. In sutural row S 0, S 1, S 3, S 4i, S 4, S 5i and S 5 present. Ps 2 and Ps 5 present. Thoracic chaetotaxy Th II ( Fig. 38D View FIGURE 38 ) with Mc m 1 and m 2i present on T1 area (m 2 Mc asymmetrical in two specimens).T2 area with Mc a 5, a 5’, m 4, m 4i and m 5 present. Abdominal chaetotaxy ( Fig. 38E View FIGURE 38 ) with a 2 and a 3 present on A1 area on Abd II, m 3, m 3ep, m 3e and m 3eai Mc present on A2 area of Abd II. On Abd III only a 1 Mc present on A3 area, a 2 and a 3 on A4 area and m 3 and m 3e on A5 area. Abd IV ( Fig.38F View FIGURE 38 ) with Mc A 4 –A 6, A e4, B 3 –B 6, C 1 and C 2a. Some Mc could be present but rarely; m 2 on Th II, A 04 as unpaired Mc on Abd IV in one specimen A e2 and B 2 could be present or absent on Abd IV. Sensillary formula seen and as normal for Entomobrya .

Remarks. Only E. naziridisi Jordana & Baquero, 2008 (in Ramel et al., 2008), E. darelis sp. nov., E. lindbergi Stach, 1960 , E. irayae and the new species share the 2,4 / 1,2,2 Mc formula on Abd II and III. Entomobrya darelis sp. nov., E. naziridisi , E. lindbergi and E. irayae are separated from E. tasmomarginata sp. nov. by the formula of Mc on Th II (2,3 or 2(3), 4) instead of 2,5 in this new species, where a5’ is always present as Mc. In addition, E. darelis sp. nov. has smooth papilla on the labrum, and the colour differs. Entomobrya tasmomarginata has an almost uniform blue colour ( Fig. 5N View FIGURE 5 ), while E. irayae occurs in two forms: pale white and dark with a defined colour pattern, E. naziridisi is pale yellow to green or greyish, and E. lindbergi is grey with lateral bands along the body.

Etymology. Species name refers to its similarity to E. marginata and its occurrence only in Tasmania.
