Dolichogenidea cucurbita Liu & Chen , sp. nov.

( Figs 19 View FIGURE 19 , 67 View FIGURE 67. 21–35 )

Description. Holotype. Female. Body length 2.0 mm, fore wing length 2.4 mm.

Head. Transverse in dorsal view, 2.0× as wide as long, nearly as wide as mesoscutum ( Fig. 19d View FIGURE 19 ). Temple shiny with very shallow punctures, weakly constricted behind eyes from dorsal view. Face ( Fig. 19i View FIGURE 19 ) transverse, 0.8× as high as wide, relatively shiny, with hairy, minute punctures, inner margins of eyes distinctly, but not strongly, converged towards apex. Ocelli small, posterior tangent to anterior ocellus just before posterior pair of ocelli, distance between fore and a hind ocellus almost as long as diameter of an hind ocellus, POL:OD:OOL = 3.0:1.5:4.0. Antenna a little longer than body length, penultimate antennomere nearly 2.0× longer than wide.

Mesosoma. Length:width:height = 37.0:24.0:28.5. Disc of mesonotum ( Fig. 19e View FIGURE 19 ) a little shiny, with fine, relatively dense punctures. Scutellar sulcus weakly curved, narrow with carinae inbetween. Scutellum shinier than mesonotum, with shallow small punctures. Propodeum ( Fig. 19f View FIGURE 19 ) highly shiny, with well-defined areolation which closed at at anterior end and lateral carinae bifurcated medially, three posterior fields highly shiny and polished, anterio-lateral parts a little shiny with minute hairy punctures. Mesopleuron highly polished, anterior part with shallow, sparse punctures.

Legs. Hind coxa shiny and polished. Spines on outer side of hind tibia sparse. Inner spur half length of hind basitarsus, outer spur 1/3. Basitarsus of hind leg as long as tarsomeres 2–4.

Wings. Pterostigma 2.6× as long as its widest part ( Fig. 19b View FIGURE 19 ). Vein 1-R1 1.4× longer than pterostigma, it almost closing marginal cell. Vein r arising from apex of pterostigma, r indistinctly inclined outwards, weakly shorter than width of pterostigma, weakly longer than 2-SR, indistinctly angled with 2-SR at meeting, 2-M nearly half length of 2-SR and as long as 1-SR and 2-SR+M, m-cu as long as width of pterostigma. First discal cell of fore wing as wide as high. Second discal cell of hind wing 1.8× wider than high. Vein cu-a strongly curved ( Fig. 19c View FIGURE 19 ).

Metasoma. Almost as long as mesosoma. T1 ( Fig. 19g View FIGURE 19 ) weakly widened towards apex, weakly constricted medio-laterally, relatively long, 1.7× longer than hind width, basal one third concave, rugulose, turned-over part weakly longer than hind width, strongly rugose, more or less longitudinally striate on apical 1/3. T2 less rugose than T1, 3.0× wider than long in middle, strongly curved apically. T3 1.3× longer than T2. Tergites posterior to T2 shiny, polished and pubescent. Hypopygium not longer than apex of metasoma. Ovipositor sheath 0.9× as long as length of hind tibia, fusiform from lateral view. Ovipositor long, weakly curved, taped towards apex.

Colour. Black ( Fig. 19a View FIGURE 19 ). Tegula dark brown. Palpi and spurs whitish. Antenna and ovipositor sheath dark brown. Labrum dark brown and mandible reddish yellow. Legs black, except apical half of fore femur, fore tibia, fore tarsus, apex of mid femur, basal 1/3 of mid tibia, mid tarsus, and basal 1/4 of hind tibia yellow. Wing membrane hyaline, vein 1-R1, C+SC+R, border of pterostigma brown, pterostigma light brown, other alar veins whitish yellow.

Male. Unknown.

Host. Unknown.

Material examined ( ZJUH). Holotype: ♀, Guadun, Mt. Wuyi , Fujian, 1994.VII.14, Chen Xuexin, No. 942105.

Distribution. Oriental [ China: Fujian].

Etymology. The specific name “ cucurbita ” derived from the Latin, referring to T1 gourd-shaped.

Remarks. This species is similar to D. nydia Nixon , but differs in the following: hind femur black (the latter yellow); antenna a little longer than body length (the latter a little shorter than body length); and ovipositor without apical attenuation (the latter with).
