TYPE MATERIAL. — Holotype and paratypes 1-2 WPNM (figured also by Higo et al. 2001: 66, fig. G2398) [examined good photographs only], paratype 3 IMT no. 86-4 [not seen] .

TYPE LOCALITY. — Nada (Wakayama Prefecture), Kii Peninsula ( Gobō District , central Honshū, Japan) .

MATERIAL EXAMINED. — New Caledonia proper. LAGON: stn Loyalty Ridge. MUSORSTOM 6: stn DW 473, 21°09’S, 167°55’E, 830, Secteur de Poindimié , 20°49’S, 165°19’E, 105-110 m, 2 dd. 236 m, 1 dd (Fig. 33) GoogleMaps .

— EXPÉDITION MONTROUZIER: stn 1323, Secteur de Koumac, Loyalty Islands. Lifou. LIFOU 2000: stn 1450, Baie du Santal, 20°40.9’S, 164°14.8’E, 82-120 m, 1 dd. 20°45.8’S, 167°01.65’E, 27-31 m, 1 dd.

DISTRIBUTION. — Kii Peninsula ( Japan), lower intertidal ( Kosuge 1986d; Tsuchiya 2000). New Caledonia, Loyalty Ridge and Loyalty Islands, empty shells in 31-236 m.

REMARKS. — Coralliophila carnosa was previously known only from the type locality in southern Japan, lower intertidal. It is very similar to C. leucostoma Kosuge, 1986 from Queensland ( Kosuge 1986b: 63) and their possible synonymy should be evaluated. The present specimens were empty shells mostly from deep water and accidental drifting cannot be ruled out.
