Coluber (Natrix) lugubris Merrem, 1820: 133 .—A replacement name for Coluber atratus Herrmann, 1804 .

Status. This taxon was synonymized with Tropidonotus umbratus ( Daudin, 1803) by Schlegel (1837). It is not a member of the Xenochrophis piscator -complex and should be removed from the synonymy of Tropidonotus umbratus and other synonyms of X. piscator .

Comments. This taxon is a replacement name for Coluber atratus Herrmann, 1804 , as both authors based their description upon the same specimen, in spite of a difference in the number of subcaudals (82 and 87, which may result from a mistyping by Merrem). As discussed above, C. atratus is not a member of the genus Xenochrophis .
