ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868a: 29.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Mons Tyrolis ital. [Italian Tyrolean mountains]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (missing right mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 6): Cheilosia Mgn / erythrostoma Rnd., Alp. Tirol. [= Tyrolean Alps] / 274 / Lectotypus Cheilosia erythrostoma Rond. , ♀, des. Claussen & Thompson 1996.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Peck 1988: 102, Belcari et al. 1995a: 12); junior synonym of Cheilosia aerea Dufour, 1848 View in CoL ( Claussen & Thompson 1996: 276).

REMARKS: Rondani (1868a: 29) described Cheilosia erythrostoma from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from P. Strobel. Claussen & Thompson (1996: 277) designated a lectotype (♀).
