Redescription of Cavernicola pilosa Barber, 1937 View in CoL .

Length of males 11.25 + 0.35mm, of females 12.75 + 1.06mm. Body covered with long setae, except membrane of hemelytra, dorsal connexivum, 3 rd and 4 th antennal segments, central portion of sternites II to VI, 3 rd rostral segment, internal surface of first 2 rostral segments and ventral midline of head.

Integument smooth on pronotum and abdomen, with discrete granulation on head and rugosity on meso- and metapleura; color dark chestnut, except on meso- and metasternum, coxae, trochanters, central area of sternites II to VI, markings on pronotum, some corium areas, and hemelytra membranes veins, these dark yellow.

Head fusiform in dorsal view. In lateral view, very convex dorsally: flat on ventral surface and strongly curved mediodorsally (ratio of total length to height 1: 0.45). Anteocular region slightly longer or same length as postocular region (ratio of size between ante- and postocular regions 1: 0.96).

Base of antenniferous tubercle touching anterior border of eye, placed on ventral third of head, in lateral view.

Clypeus convex, with ampule-shaped constriction medially.

Eyes inserted on midline of head, not overlapping ventral surface. Well separated in dorsal view (ratio between intra-ocular distance and width of one eye 1: 0.34). Not very separate in ventral view (ratio between intra-ocular distance and width of one eye 1: 0.59). Ratio of head length to that of eyes in dorsal view 1: 0.23; ratio of length to width of eye 1: 0.46.

Ocelli very small, inconspicuous, situated at integument level, with flat brilliant surface, on or immediately behind postocular suture.

Postocular suture extending from one eye to other, located behind dorsal curvature, on posterior third of head.

Cervix smooth, dark chestnut, without markings.

Pronotum wider than long (ratio of width to length 1: 0.73), smaller than head (ratio of head length to pronotum 1: 0.93). Integument dark chestnut, smooth, covered with long setae, striated between anterior and posterior lobes. Anterior lobes with pale chestnut patches.

Scutellum triangular, with 2 raised cristae laterally, just before apex. Apical process very small, obsolete, rounded apically, almost perpendicular to abdominal dorsum. Integument black, covered with long setae.

Propleura integument as pronotum. Meso- and metapleura with integument dark chestnut, bearing striae and a few long setae.

Corium smoky chestnut, with 2 dark yellow markings with indistinct borders, 1 lateral along entire extension of claval suture and the other smaller, anterior, sublateral; venation indistinct; covered with sparse long hairs. Clavus glabrous, smoky chestnut. Membrane smoky chestnut, glabrous, with conspicuous dark yellow veins. None of the specimens examined had the small transverse veins of the internal cell internal originating from the median vein, as cited in the description of Barber (1937).

Abdominal venter dark chestnut, median area yellowish.

Legs dark chestnut overall except coxae, trochanters, and bases of femora dark yellow; ratio between length and width of fore, mid, and hind femora 1: 0.23; 1: 0.20 and 1: 0.17, respectively. Ratio of length of tibia and femur 1: 0.70 in females and 1: 0.81 in males; Tarsi long, 1 st segment shorter than 2 nd and 3 rd (ratio of size of tarsal segments 1: 1.85: 1.54). Two large claws apically on 3 rd tarsal segment.

Pygophore globular, sclerotized, with numerous wide ventral setae. Median process of pygophore with bevelled or bifurcate apex. Paramere symmetrical, slightly twisted, apex sharp and with apical projection dorsally.

Basal plates: articular apparatus with two divergent arms, with bell- or mushroom-shaped process on proximal extremity. Apical convergence of basal plates constituting medial extension, very reduced in size, fused to basal plate and indistinguishable from it. Gonopore process on internal face of medial extension of basal plates. Phallosome a chitinized sheet, straight, trapezoidal, occupying apical part of aedeagus; conjunctiva a small asymmetrical process; without endosomal process.

Female external genitalia: gonocoxites sharply pointed apically.
