TYPE MATERIAL. — Coralliophila indica : 2 syntypes BMNH 1904.6.15.162-3, figured by Kosuge & Suzuki (1985: pl. 34, fig. 3). — Latiaxis kieneri : 4 syntypes MNCN 15.05/759 — Latiaxis kiranus : holotype OMNH-Mo 6554, figured by Kosuge & Suzuki (1985: pl. 34, fig. 6). — Latiaxis michikoae : 2 syntypes NSMT Mo 60935, one figured by Shikama (1979: figs 21-22), Kosuge & Suzuki (1985: pl. 34, fig. 3) and Higo et al. (2001: 68, G2463s). — Latiaxis kanamarui : holotype NSMT Mo 60936, figured also by Kosuge & Suzuki (1985: pl. 34, fig. 5) and Higo et al. (2001: 68, G2464s).

TYPE LOCALITY. — C. indica : off southern India, 7°17’30’’N, 76°54’E, 430 fms [R/V Investigator stn 232]. — L. kieneri : Cebu Is., Philippines. — L. kiranus : off Tosa, Shikoku, Japan. — L. michikoae : off Tosa, southern Shikoku, Japan. — L. kanamarui : “Tosa”, southern Shikoku, Japan.

DISTRIBUTION. — Indian Ocean : from southern Africa (Kosuge 2008) and eastern Africa, Somalia ( Kosuge 1993) and Réunion to southern India. Pacific Ocean: from Japan to the Philippines, “ 100-200 m, rocks” (Higo et al. 1999: 220). Loyalty Ridge, empty shells in 425-700 m.

REMARKS. — The relationships among Coralliophila indicus , Latiaxis kieneri , L. michikoae , L. kiranus and L. kanamarui require further careful study. Based only on teleoconch morphology, it is unclear whether they represent variation within a single species or several different species.
