NOTES: In the paper on the Mycetozoa of Australia and New Zealand, G. Lister (1915b: 210–211) commented on this variety “Besides the typical form Mr. Cheesman has obtained two gatherings (from Moruya, N.S.W., and Mamaku, N.Z.) of a curious variety” and added later “I have known this variety for many years; it has been found in various parts of England, in Scotland, and in Wales ”.
In BM two boxes were located, (BM 3666 and BM 3667) with material from New Zealand and New South Wales [ Australia], that correspond to those in the publication and so are original material. We designate BM 3666
as the lectotype as it is in better condition and more representative of the species. There is also a slide of this sample (WNC A49). There are comments in notebook XXXV: 106 ( New Zealand) and XXXV: 127–128 (Australian material) and illustrations. The var. cerifera has currently no taxonomic value, and was questioned by Gulielma Lister in the third edition of the monograph ( Lister 1925) , who considered it “may possibly be a form resulting from weather conditions”.
