Alsophila subaculeata Splitgerber (1840: 430) . Type:— SURINAME. Canawappibo, December, F.L. Splitgerber s.n. (holotype L fide Barrington 1978: 23, isotypes NY! [fragment of P], P? n.v., US-00066287! [fragment of P]).

Alsophila platyphylla Presl (1851: 29) . Type:— FRENCH GUIANA. “In Gujana gallica,” vicinity of Saül, ca. 10 km NW from Eaux Claires, [ca. 03°37’N, 53°12’ W], 400 m, G.S. Perrotet s.n. (lectotype PR!, here designated, isolectotype NY-0014874! [fragment of PR]).

Distribution and habitat: — Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and northern Brazil at 140–1300 m, in lowland rain forests on terra firma and premontane forest.

Remarks:– Three sheets at P from Herb. Sagot No. 726 (P-01549035!/-01611322!/-01611323) carried under Alsophila subaculeata belong to this species but are not type material. However, the type material at NY and US seems to represent the Splitgerber collection pertinent to this name.
