Androthrips ramachandrai Karny View in CoL
Remarks.
Described from India, this species has been reported from warmer parts of the Americas living in the leaf galls of Gynaikothrips species on Ficus trees ( Boyd and Held 2006). In common with other members of the genus Androthrips , it has enlarged fore femora with a small tubercle at the base on the inner margin (Fig. 5). In contrast to some similar members of this genus the hind tibiae are dark brown, although antennal segments III–V are yellow. It is a predator of gall-inducing thrips ( Melo et al. 2013), and in Australia has been found in galls induced by various species of Phlaeothripidae . On Hawaii, in the vicinity of Hilo, it has been found twice on the leaves of Ficus .
