Type locality. Ural [Uralsk, im Steppenland südlich von Ural; ex original description].
Type depository. Aphodius jouravliowi: Magyar Természettudomàny Muzéum , Budapest, Hungary (type examined); Aphodius jouravliowi latonius : unknown to authors.
Redescription. Length 5.5–6.0 mm; elongate, moderately convex, rather dull, glabrous. Head, pronotum, and scutellum black, elytra dirty yellow ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 13 – 23 ), sometimes elytra with juxtasutural interstria and sides shadowy piceous ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 13 – 23 ); legs reddish brown, antennal club piceous. Head with epistome moderately convex, depressed toward clypeal margin, coarsely and somewhat irregularly punctate on disc; punctation confusedly subrugose distally; clypeus distinctly sinuate at middle, round on sides, thickly bordered, edge upturned, glabrous; genae obtusely round, setose, protruding from the eyes; frontal suture finely impressed, front distinctly irregularly punctate. Pronotum transverse, moderately convex, dually punctate; large punctures, five to six times larger than small punctures, denser on sides; fine small punctures rather regularly scattered throughout; lateral margins almost straight, thickly bordered, edge sparsely setose; hind angles widely truncate, truncation feebly sinuate inwardly; base faintly bisinuate, entirely bordered, the border crenulate by a series of contiguous punctures. Scutellum triangularly elongate, flat, irregularly punctate on basal half. Elytra moderately convex, subparallel-sided, rather deeply striate; striae crenulate; interstriae flat, superficially and finely microreticulate thus almost dull, near imperceptibly sparsely punctate. Metatibiae superior spur as long as first metatarsomere; latter as long as following 3 metatarsomeres combined. Male: frontal suture with vestiges of a median tubercle; pronotum more transverse, less convex and more sparsely punctate; protibiae spur stout, distinctly hooked apically; aedeagus Figs. 2 2–23 View FIGURES 1 – 12 View FIGURES 13 – 23 . Female: frontal suture without tubercle; pronotum more convex, somewhat narrowed apically and more densely punctate; protibiae spur almost straight.
Distribution. Russia (Siberia, Ural, and Altai mountains).
Material examined. RUSSIA: West Siberia: Barnaulka, Sibiria occidentalis (1 specimen, ZMHB) ; Krasnojarsk, Jenisseisgeb [ western Siberia ] (1 specimen, DCG) ; Ural [ex original description: Uralsk, im Steppenland südlich von Ural] (1 specimen, male holotype, HNHM) .
