Genus Gymnoscirtus Karsch, 1891

Gymnoscirtus ( Karsch, 1891) was monotypic up to now. Gymnoscirtus has a broad and rounded globose fastigium verticis, which meets the fastigium of frons in a broad well-distinguished horizontal line with a deep median sulcus. Further characters for the genus Gymnoscirtus are given in detail in Hemp (2013). Gymnoscirtus is similar to the genus Apteroscirtus . Characters differentiating the two genera as given by Karsch (1891) are a fastigium verticis which is broader in Gymnoscirtus , the form of the pronotum which is constricted at its first furrow (causing the “hourglass” shape), and the subgenital plate which is triangularly incised in Apteroscirtus while the incision is evenly rounded in Gymnoscirtus . The second species of this species described as G. corifterus n. sp. agrees with the generic characters given by Karsch (1891) and Hemp et al. (2015) except for the wings, shortened but present in G. unguiculatus and strongly reduced to tiny lobes similar to the genus Apteroscirtus in the new species G. corifterus n. sp. Also, the subgenital plate is tri-angularly incised, similar to Apteroscirtus . The fastigium verticis and the „hourglass“-shaped pronotum however, distinctly places the new species into the genus Gymnoscirtus .
