O. s. Song, 1987: 95, fig. 59 (3).

O. s. Song, Zhu & Chen, 1999: 69, figs 28V –W (3).

Material examined: 1 male, 1 female, CHINA: Hainan, Jianfengling National Natural Reserve, Huxiaolongyin Scenic Area (18°45.159´N, 108°54.604´E), 900 m a.s.l., 20 July 2007, C. Wang leg. (WangCX 53); 1 male, CHINA: Hainan, Bawangling National Natural Reserve (19°04.871´N, 109°07.395´E), Yajia Bawangling Convention Center, 654 m a.s.l., 27 July 2007, S. Li leg. (LiSQ 106). All specimens deposited in IZCAS.

Comparative material: Opopaea deserticola Simon, 1891 ( Figs 1Q, S, T View FIGURES 1 A – U , 7 View FIGURES 7 A – C , detailed description see Platnick and Dupérré, 2009). 6 males, 14 females, Fort Myers Beach (26°26'N, 81°56'W), Florida, USA, Mar. 17, 1954 (W. Ivie, AMNH PBI _OON 1265); 1 male, 4 females, Fort Myers (26°38'N, 81°50'W), Florida, USA, Mar. 18, 1954 (W. Ivie, AMNH PBI _OON 1326); 6 males, 9 females, South Bimini, Bahama Islands, May 1951 (W. Gertsch, M. Cazier, AMNH PBI _OON 1254).

Diagnosis: This species is very similar to O. deserticola Simon, 1891 , but can be distinguished by the shape and size of palpal bulb (bulb nearly as wide as palpal patella in O. sauteri , but distinctive narrower than palpal patella in O. deserticola ) and the outgrowths on the distal part of bulb (compare Figs 1P, Q View FIGURES 1 A – U , 6A–C View FIGURES 6 A – G and 7A–C View FIGURES 7 A – C ); by the median postgynal depression with smooth posterior margin, but with distinctive triangular posterior margin in O. deserticola (compare Figs 1R, S View FIGURES 1 A – U ); and by the larger sized eyes in both sexes (compare Figs 1U, T View FIGURES 1 A – U ).

Description: Male. Yellowish brown species with yellowish legs. Body length 1.34; carapace 0.58 long, 0.45 wide; abdomen 0.82 long, 0.55 wide. Habitus as in Figs 1G, N View FIGURES 1 A – U . Carapace sides with finely longitudinal streaks; dorsal area smooth with some hairs at lateral edges. Eyes six, well developed, ALE largest, PLE smallest; posterior eye row straight from above; ALE separated by less than their radius, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius ( Fig. 6D View FIGURES 6 A – G ). Clypeus margin unmodified; clypeus height about 0.75 times of ALE diameter. Sternum longer than wide, uniform, fused to carapace; radial furrows present between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, with rows of small pits; surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture only in furrows. Anterior end of endites with a small, sharply pointed projection. Legs short, thick and spineless. Measurements of legs: I 1.04 (0.34, 0.18, 0.21, 0.18, 0.13); II 1.04 (0.34, 0.18, 0.21, 0.18, 0.13); III 0.83 (0.29, 0.13, 0.14, 0.16, 0.11); IV 1.19 (0.37, 0.21, 0.26, 0.22, 0.13). Leg formula: 4>1=2>3. Abdominal dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, punctate, covering full length of abdomen. Book lung covers very small, ovoid, without setae. Pedicel tube short, ribbed, with small, dorsolateral, triangular extensions, scuto-pedicel region with paired curved scutal ridges ( Fig. 6E View FIGURES 6 A – G ), scutum not extending far dorsal of pedicel. Sperm pore small, clearly discernible, transverse; posteriorly directed apodemes present. Colulus very small, with two short setae; spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Supra-anal scutum absent. Patella of palp greatly enlarged and swollen, shorter than cymbiobulbus, attached to femur subbasally; cymbium completely fused to bulb without suture line; embolus simple, without distinct outgrowths ( Figs 6A–C View FIGURES 6 A – G ).

Female. As in male except as noted. Body length 1.42; carapace 0.58 long, 0.45 wide; abdomen 0.89 long, 0.66 wide. Endites without projections. Measurements of legs: I 1.00 (0.34, 0.18, 0.19, 0.16, 0.13); II 1.02 (0.34, 0.18, 0.21, 0.18, 0.11); III 0.87 (0.29, 0.13, 0.16, 0.18, 0.11); IV 1.23 (0.37, 0.21, 0.26, 0.26, 0.13). Postgynal depression of epigastric area shallow, without parmula, but with a small pit visible through cuticle ( Fig. 6F View FIGURES 6 A – G ). Vulva with a short, T-shaped sclerite, situated near epigastric furrow ( Fig. 6G View FIGURES 6 A – G ).

Distribution: China ( Taiwan, new to Hainan) ( Map 2 View MAP 2 ).
