Diagnosis. This species is close to S. bizonarius (Gravenhorst, 1829) but can be distinguished by its larger size, by the denser and deeper punctuation especially on the mesopleuron, where also the upper half is completely punctured, and on tergites 4 and 5. The sternaulus is distinct, but less deeply impressed. The antennae are shorter in S. stibarus , with 16–17 flagellomeres in the female and 17–18 in the male, compared to 18–21 and 17–20 in S. bizonarius females and males, respectively.
