Genus Macrobiotus Schulze, 1834

Species of Macrobiotus cannot be identified without their eggs. Older literature often did not employ the rigorous standards of identification used today ( Pilato & Binda 2001; Guidetti & Bertolani 2005). Up to now, 10 of the 161 species in this genus have been reported in southern Africa (Table 1).
