This taxon was described from an unspecified number of specimens collected at «Dunedin, Florida ». Casey’s collection in USNM contains a single specimen under that name, a female, herein selected as the lectotype, labelled «Dunedin, Fla W.S.B. Coll. 3-5-17/Casey bequest 1925/Type USNM 47348 View Materials / UIAC 00044052 / cursitans Csy. [handwritten]/ lectotype Loxandrus cursitans by [handwritten] R. T. Allen» .

The lectotype (SBL ¼ 7.6 mm; ABL ¼ about 8.0 mm) is conspecific with specimens of L. agilis Dejean, 1828 [ NEW SYNONYMY]. See comment under L. calathinus LeConte .
