Angelonia micrantha var. perennis Chodat & Hassler (1904: 285) .
Monopera perennis (Chodat & Hassl.) Barringer (1983: 113) .
Lectotype (first-step designated by Barringer 1983, second-step here designated):— PARAGUAY. “ in regione cursus superioris fluminis Apa ”, November, Hassler 7828 ( G barcode G00366028 ; isolectotypes: G barcodes G00366023 , G00366029 , and G00366033 , GH barcode 00077891 , K barcode K000528880 , MO barcode MO-2267514 , MPU barcode MPU018189 , NY barcode 00067836 ; P barcodes P00584259 and P00584258 , PH barcode 00003211 , S Herb. N° S10-19369 , UC barcode UC944846 , W Acqu. 1904 N° 622 ) . Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 .
In the protologue of Angelonia micrantha var. perennis, Chodat & Hassler (1904) cited the specimen Hassler 7828 without assigning it to any herbarium. Later, Barringer (1983) cited “ Holotype: G!; Isotypes: K!, MO!, NY!, P!, UC!, W!”. More recently, Souza & Giulietti (2009) designated the specimen at G as lectotype. However, because no holotype was designated in the protologue and considering that the authors had access to all extant specimens of Hassler 7828 prior to publication, since Hassler is the gathering collector, the specimens in different herbaria are syntypes, and the use of “ holotype ” by Barringer (1983) is an error to be corrected to “ lectotype ” according to Art. 9.10. Moreover, this inadvertent designation is effective, fulfilling Art. 7.11, and must be followed according to Art. 10.5, rendering the subsequent lectotypification by Souza & Giulietti (2009) superfluous. On the other hand, we found four specimens of Hassler 7828 at G and believe that the lectotypification should be narrowed according to Art. 9.17. Hence, we selected the specimen G barcode G00366028 as second-step lectotype because it bears the label of “ Holotype ” signed by Barringer, indicating that this was the exact specimen he was referring to in Barringer (1983).
