status

Brasilonema sp. ( Fig.12T–V View FIGURE 12 ).

Filaments forming fascicles conical, erect, parallel, 20.82–28.21 µm wide. Sheath firm, 0.88–2.41 µm wide, non-lamellated or with 1 lamella, brown. Trichomes cylindrical, unbranched, constricted or not. Cells cylindrical to sub-quadratic, 9.2–22.64 µm wide, 6.4–11.67 µm long, ratio l/w = 1.73. Apical cell rounded. Cell content homogenous, blue-green. Heterocyte cylindrical to isodiametric, 8.79–21.26 µm wide, 6.32–20.36 µm long, intercalary position, next to substrate. Hormogonia near apical portion.

Habitat: —Rocks fully exposed to the sun associated with Chroococcocus aff. heanogloios .

Notes: —This morphotype resembles Brasilonema tolantongensis Becerra-Absalón et Montejano and Brasilonema sennae (Komárek) Sant’ Anna et Komárek ( Komárek, 2013), from which it differs by its habitat and filament dimensions.
