Evenhuis (2002a) described the genus Pieza comprising 11 species (10 extant and 1 fossil). The genus is currently found in the western North American cordillera with disjunct extant species known from Florida, Brazil, and the Caribbean. The lone fossil species is known from the Miocene amber of the Dominican Republic. The characters given in Evenhuis (2002a) should serve to identify the species. No additional information has been found in this study that can be added to the original description.

TYPE. Holotype female from DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: exact locality unknown, DR-11-1. Deposited in AMNH. The holotype is the only inclusion in a piece of amber that measures approximately 6 x 13 mm and has been cut, polished, and mounted in clear artificial resin
