Genus Pterogramma Spuler, 1923

Pterogramma Spuler, 1923 . – SMITH & MARSHALL (2004): 3 –163 [redescription, taxonomy, phylogeny, key, illustr.].

Note. ROHÁČEK et al. (2001) included several Pacific species in Pterogramma “on an interim basis only” and referred to a manuscript (later published by SMITH & MARSHALL 2004) showing that the Pacific species previously included in

Pterogramma form an unnamed clade without close relationship to Pterogramma . SMITH & MARSHALL (2004) redefine

Pterogramma as an almost entirely Neotropical group, and state that the Pacific species previously included in this group, “along with several undescribed congeners, will be dealt with under a new generic name in the future”. Now that PAPP (2008b) has erected the new genus Pseudopterogramma for one of the “Pacific Pterogramma ” we here treat the entire clade of “Pacific Pterogramma ” as Pseudopterogramma , as further discussed under that genus. There remains an immense number (certainly several hundred) of undescribed Neotropical Pterogramma species.
