Type species. Bulbosphaeraster valettei View in CoL sp. nov.
Diagnosis. Sphaerasteridae in which the pir and pr carry centrally placed, rounded, bulbous swellings; external ornament of abactinals consisting of coarse, evenly distributed, circular, crater-rimmed spine pits. Simple papular notches present on corners of plates.
Derivation of name. From the Latin bulba, meaning swelling, with reference to the swollen abactinal ossicles.
