Benthic; depth: intertidal to 49 m (162 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California). Gibbonsia erythra Hubbs, 1952 , is a junior synonym ( Stepien and Rosenblatt 1991).
