To 33 cm (13 in) SL (Smith in Carpenter and De Angelis 2016). Circumglobal in temperate to tropical waters; western Pacific Ocean north to south-eastern Kyushu, Japan ( Ban and Fukui 2011); southern California to Gulf of California ( Johnson and Cohen 1974).
