Cocinero, Concinero Jack, or Striped Jack. To 41.2 cm (16.2 in) TL ( Lucano-Ramírez et al. 2016). San Diego Bay, southern California ( Lea and Rosenblatt 2000) to Tumbes, Peru ( Chirichigno and Vélez 1998), including central and southern Gulf of California ( Robertson and Allen 2002). Marine, brackish, and fresh waters ( Fricke et al. 2020); depth: surface ( De La Cruz-Agüero et al. 1997), 4–50 m (12–164 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: De La Cruz-Agüero et al. 1997). Also recently as Caranx vinctus Jordan & Gilbert, 1882 (World Register of Marine Species, 28 May 2020).
