* Nerophis ophidion (Linnaeus, 1758 )—Straight-nosed pipefish

Recorded from Madeira by Wirtz (1998).

* Syngnathus acus Linnaeus, 1758 —Greater pipefish

Not recorded from Madeira by Dawson in Whitehead et al., 1986: 635-636) even though already recorded from Madeira by Maul (1949: 146). Also recorded from Madeira by Wirtz (1994: 48) but the photo of S. acus in this book is from the Azores.
