Type species: Chrysomela staphylea Linnaeus, 1758 , by original designation.

Diagnosis. Labial palpi wide; antennae separated by entire width of head, extended to base of elytra; pronotum broader than long; elytra punctate; anterior coxal cavities open behind; intercoxal process of metaventrite bordered and rounded; tarsomere 3 not bilobed; claws simple.

Description. Body moderately broad and convex, dorsum without pubescence. Hind wing present, rudimentary or absent.

Head: Subprognathous, flat in lateral view; frons and vertex forming straight line in lateral view; antero-frontal ridge sinuous; clypeus trapezoidal, base of clypeus raised; labrum incised antero-medially; antennae extended to base of elytra.

Pronotum: Broader than long; setae of anterior margin present; anterior margin and posterior margin bordered; with or without setigerous punctures on sides of anterior and posterior angles; disc narrowed, or straight anteriorly, not distinctly narrower anteriorly than posteriorly, without longitudinal depression on central disc; with or without lateral callus; with or without depression on lateral side, lacking ante-basal transverse impression.

Scutellum : Sub-triangular, ligulate or half-rounded.

Elytra: Humeral callus absent; elytron with punctures confused or forming regular single striae or double striae; inner edge of epipleron with apical 1/3 sparsely and finely bristled or without bristles.

Legs: Apices of all tibia expanded or not externally; hind tarsomere 3 truncate or with shallow emargination, entirely pubescent beneath or with ventral pubescence present only at ventro-lateral areas; tarsomere 5 ventrally toothed or not; tarsal claws simple.

Venter: Hypomera with or without punctures, shagreened or not, more or less convex, with or without impression and wrinkles laterally and short basal fold basally; setae present on anterior margin of prosternum; anterior coxal cavities open behind; intercoxal process of metaventrite bordered and truncate anteriorly; first ventrite of abdomen without carina; ventrite of abdomen without lamellae to sides; last abdominal sternite of male without emargination; pygidium with or without longitudinal depression medially.

Male genitalia: Tegmen Y-shaped; flagellum sclerotized; aedeagus curved or straight in lateral view.

Spermatheca: Present or absent.
