General characters. Frons rounded, without projection. Forewing generally with one or two outcurved subterminal fascia(e); Sc usually separated with R1, rarely connected with R1, R2 free, R3, R4 and R5 stalked, M1 present. Hindwing without stigma, M2 and M3 stalked. Female frenulum double. Male genitalia usually with long and thin uncus and gnathos; valva broad and short, or narrow and long; costa well developed, with costal protuberance in most species; sacculus with developed distal prong or sclerotized pleat; pseudosaccus present; saccus present or absent; phallus usually thin and long, with one to two apical spines in most species; cornutus present or absent, if present, different in number and shape; ductus ejaculatorius arising from base of phallus. Female genitalia with papilla analis not fused dorsally; apophysis posterioris long and thin, nearly as long as papilla analis, apophysis anterioris absent; antrum varied in shape; ductus bursae long and thin; corpus bursae rounded or ovate, signum present or absent.
Distribution. The Palearctic, Oriental and Nearctic regions.
