Family Coronulidae Leach, 1817 View in CoL View at ENA
(nom. transl. Newman & Ross, 1976 [ex Coronulidae Pilsbry, 1916: 268 (synonymy) pro Coronulidea (sic) Leach, 1817: 68])
Type genus. Coronula Lamarck, 1802: 464 ; by original designation of Leach (1817: 68).
Diagnosis. Wall six-plated (R-CL1-CL2-C), relatively thick, mono-lamellar, or bi-lamellar when T-shaped flanges and longitudinal canals present; parietes without mid-rib; opercular plates reduced, tergum vestigial or absent, or tergum and scutum absent; apertural hood present.
Remarks. Leach (1817) included Tubicinella , Coronula and Chelonibia when he proposed this family, but did not specify the type genus. Since Coronula was the nominal genus upon which the family-group was based, it becomes, ipso facto, the type by original designation. Chelonibia has since been relegated to the Chelonibiidae . The Coronulidae is now recognized as including four subfamilies, the Coronulinae Leach, 1817 , Cryptolepadinae subfam., nov. Tubicinellinae subfam. nov. and Xenobalaninae Gruvel, 1905 .
