Bolivaritettix Günther, 1939 View in CoL ; Steinmann, 1962; Shishodia, 1991; Jiang and Zheng, 1998; Liang and Zheng, 1998; Zheng, 2005; Deng, Zheng and Wei, 2007. Type species: Bolivaritettix sculptus ( Bolivar, 1887) View in CoL

Diagnosis. Head not exserted, vertex generally wider than one eye (horizontal diameter of eyes). Antennae filiform, inserted between lower margins of eyes. Eyes not exserted above pronotal surface. Pronotum truncate anteriorly, subulate posteriorly and extends beyond apex of hind femora. Posterior margins of lateral lobes of pronotum with two concavities, posterior angles of lateral lobes of pronotum produced outwards, obliquely truncate behind. Tegmina long oval, apex round. Wings generally present. Margins of fore and middle femora entire. Margins of hind femora finely serrulate. First and third hind tarsal segments equal in length.

The genus Bolivaritettix was originally classified under Scelimeninae by Günther in 1939, but Günther (1942) revised the genus and transferred it under Metrodorinae based on posterior lower angle of lateral lobe of pronotum laminate widened outwards, end of posterior angle of lateral lobe of pronotum truncate. Bolivaritettix is closely related to Mazarredia Bolivar based on vertex wider than first segment of antennae at the anterior margin, but differs in head not exserted above the pronotal surface. Tetrigids are one of the most basal members of the caeliferan Orthoptera ( Flook et al. 1999) , but the phylogenetic studies focusing on the relationships within tetrigids are few. Therefore, phylogenetic relationships between Bolivaritettix and other Metrodorine genera are not well understood.
