Type species. Aega nordenskjoldii Bovallius, 1885 by monotypy (see Bruce 2009); junior synonym of Aega ventrosa M. Sars, 1859 .

Remarks. The genus was re-established and described in detail by Bruce (2009), and at present has 38 species. Aegiochus has a worldwide distribution, at depths ranging from shallow subtidal to usually within 2000 metres.
