Red Sea main basin: Egypt ( Klausewitz 1960a, as Tripterygion abeli ), Sudan ( Holleman & Bogorodsky 2012), Eritrea (Clark et al. 1968, as Tripterygion abeli ), Yemen ( Holleman 2005).

General distribution: Red Sea, western Indian Ocean: East Africa east to Chagos Archipelago.
