Red Sea main basin: Egypt ( Klunzinger 1870), Eritrea (Cuvier in Cuvier in Valenciennes 1829a, as S. erythraea  , part; Picaglia 1895; Golani et al. 2011b), Saudi Arabia ( Bogorodsky et al. 2014b), Yemen (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775, as Atherina sihama  ; see Fricke 2008).

General distribution: Southern Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Philippines and Solomon Islands.
