The egg of Leptotes pirithous (Linnaeus) has a very regular pattern in which the cells have a rhomboid shape and are arranged in spiral lines. Cells from the tubercle-aeropyle zone have smooth walls and rounded scarcely prominent tubercles in the intersections. The annular zone occupies a very small area and is located inside a depression. Annular cells are irregular in shape and have short stripes of chorionic elevations in their inside, while the micropylar rosette is four petalled.
