Diagnosis. Body oblong. Head flattened, especially the prorostrum, without well marked vertex-frontal median groove. Venter of mesorostrum with two small projections below insertion of antennae ( Figs 21 View FIGURES 20 – 34 , 36 View FIGURES 35 – 47 ). Metarostrum without well marked lateral grooves. Three last antennomeres slightly flattened, forming a club ( Figs 23 View FIGURES 20 – 34 , 37 View FIGURES 35 – 47 ), 11 acute apically. Pronotum pyriform, much broader at base than at apex, with a longitudinal median groove, glabrous. Prothorax without median fovea in front of procoxae. Femora flattened; protibia very short, squat ( Figs 24 View FIGURES 20 – 34 , 50 View FIGURES 48 – 56 , 60 View FIGURES 57 – 62 , 76 View FIGURES 72 – 78 , 86 View FIGURES 83 – 90 , 95 View FIGURES 91 – 97 ). Elytra glabrous. Elytral striae well marked; apex of elytra with caudal processes, never regularly rounded. Hind wings ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 20 – 34 ) with a well developed mediocubital cell and only one primary anal vein; anal lobe large. Metasternum with a longitudinal median groove and usually not laterally carinate. Male genitalia with parameres reduced, filiform, not fused together ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 20 – 34 , 44 View FIGURES 35 – 47 ). Gonopods IX of female genitalia with lateral and much reduced styli ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 20 – 34 ); coxites IX very long and fused in their basal part ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 20 – 34 ).

Remarks. All characters given in the diagnostic parts of the genus Hoplopisthius and of the three subgenera are not restated for each species.
